Just come out of yet *another* meeting, got two more to attend today before you can even begin to get on with your work?
Let's think about the cost of the meetings you attend during your working week. It's a relatively simple equation.
Does your company or department have a compelling strategic vision? Does it actively support your ongoing development? Who owns it? How do you know?
Analyse any successful organisation to determine what makes it “good” and you are bound to find a strong sense of purpose and direction. It is widely accepted that there is a need for organisations to have a strategic vision. Every book shop will have shelves of books dedicated to the subject and yet all too often what is thought to be “strategic vision” is in reality little more than a slogan on a poster in reception or words bandied about by the Senior Management Team which means little to the workers or customers.
WOW Seat Podcast with AliNicole Waters - Enlightenment is what leaders need
Appearing on the WOW! Seat Podcast with AliNICOLE "WATERS" WOW She Does It All is always a brilliant experience and I really loved talking to Alicia about why I believe that what the world needs now are more enlightened leaders who know how to leverage their genuine power to unleash more of their WOW! Factor!
The benefits of having a highly effective team who work well together in the best interests of the organisation are far-reaching. The cross-fertilisation of ideas, the support mechanism which allows both the individual and the group to grow in confidence and competence are well documented. Having a pool of talented people who are capable of taking responsibility can be an enormous boon to the boss.
What's the most important characteristic that all great leaders share and that is available to you too?
But *Enlightened Leadership* is more important to us than ever before..
We are facing a global crisis. The media constantly bombards us with news which highlights division, aggression, lack, and disaster. The numbers of people who are isolated, unhappy, stressed, anxious and depressed are already at epidemic proportions – over half the prescriptions in the UK are for anti-depressants – and there seem to be no signs of the numbers reducing. The pace of change appears to be accelerating and around the world, people are struggling to deal with its impact. There must be a significant change in both the way we approach the challenges of today and in the quality of leadership at every level of society.
What does it really mean to be an Enlightened Leader?
We are currently surrounded at every stratum of society by examples of leadership which is anything but enlightened. The cost of poor leadership is high and far-reaching and affects us all. It is time for a change, a paradigm shift is required if we are to stem the tsunami of stress, depression, and anxiety which is being created as a result of leadership which is based on ego, division, and fear.
Courage - heart - fearless. What do these mean to you? I've talked to the brilliant Sandra Walston on all matters courageous...
This time last week I was enjoying the extremely well organised UK Business Awards (thanks to all the staff there). I was one of the five judges tasked to pick the winner of the Inspirational Leader category.
I absolutely loved the day – tiring though it was, but in every way the best sort of tired! To listen to so many clever and dedicated people who are putting their heart and soul into their work - grafting to create a better way, to motivate their teams and to do their absolute best every day – well it was an inspirational time.
As I type, I am getting into position behind my very own judging panel table, ready to judge a succession of hopeful people who are no doubt deeply anxious and stressed by the whole occasion!
I am obviously not judging a dancing competition (that probably didn't need clarifying for those of you who know me!), no, no. I *am* judging the #InspirationalLeaders category in the UK Business Awards 2019.
