There is a real challenge in managing staff in an economic downturn.
For many Leaders, the first instinct is to drive everyone harder to ensure that the maximum productivity and return is created. In the short term, this may appear to work but in the medium to long term all it does is fuel stress, increase burnout and create an underlying resentment that can become really corrosive
I started teaching a long time ago, and for the first time in my life, I found myself. I found something that I was good at and I enjoyed. For the first time in my life, I felt really good about myself. And one of the things that I was determined that would happen is that the children in my care would get the very best possible education opportunities that I could give them.
I read a survey recently which stated that over 50% of people were dissatisfied with their job for one reason or another. That’s a significant amount of dissatisfaction. At a personal level that is a huge shame. At an organizational level, it is a performance and economic disaster.
